Introduction

Doctors will take the form and stage of dementia into account, as well as the severity of symptoms when they manage the emotional or behavioural problems of patients. If the problems are minor, non-medical treatments will be prioritised. After that, the use of psychiatric drugs will be considered to help control the symptoms, but the cognitive ability of patients may be affected; their risk of falling with also increase. Family and caregivers should try to understand the conditions of dementia patients and find out the causes of their emotional and behavioural symptoms through close observation to allow effective prevention and management.
